This is a seed grown apple variety with good disease resistance and cold-hardiness. Unlike other varieties, Antonovka apples produce good-quality fruit very similar to the parent plants. The fruit of the Antonovka is good eaten fresh or used for cooking. Originally from Russia, it is especially sought after for use as a cold-hardy rootstock for other apple varieties. Being seed grown, it will produce a full-sized apple tree which can get quite large. Antonovka apples make great low maintenance wildlife trees.
